Jeremiah Morren’s journey from young swimmer to competitive swim club coach is a testament to the power of community in shaping one’s path in life. Born and raised in Holland, Michigan, Jeremiah spent his formative years in what he fondly describes as “one square mile,” a tight-knit area that includes Holland High School and the Holland Aquatic Center – places that have been instrumental in his development, both as an athlete and a coach.
Currently serving as the Head Age Group Coach for Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics (MLA) at HAC, Jeremiah is responsible for guiding the top swimmers under the age of fourteen. His role is far more than just coaching from the side of the pool: it’s a combination of mentorship, strategic planning, and skill development. He spends 50% of his time working hands-on with the athletes and the other 50% planning for the season, writing workouts, researching new training methods, and supporting fellow coaches Ian Townsend and Norm VerMeulen. His journey to this role has roots in his own experience as a young swimmer at HAC, where he swam countless laps, honed his skills, and developed a lifelong appreciation for competitive sports.
Jeremiah pursued higher education at Oakland University, where he swam at the collegiate level for four years and earned a degree in Human Resources Management. After graduation, he established his coaching career with Liquid Lightning, a swim club in Lake Orion, Michigan, before the opportunity at HAC brought him back home.
When Jeremiah talks about his role at HAC, his passion is evident. “You see a lot of the same people here every day,” he says, reflecting on the close-knit community that has supported him for many years. It’s these familiar faces and the sense of camaraderie that drew him back to HAC, a place where he’s as much a fixture as the pools themselves. He’s proud to be part of a program that not only competes at a high level within Michigan but also provides young athletes with the chance to thrive and succeed.
Notably, Jeremiah isn’t just known for his contributions as a coach—he’s a standout athlete in his own right. He still holds two Holland High School swim records, a testament to his dedication and talent as a swimmer. As a collegiate swimmer, Jeremiah racked up numerous wins in both individual and relay events. These impressive achievements continue to inspire the young athletes he coaches today.
Beyond his coaching responsibilities, Jeremiah’s personality shines through in his interests and hobbies. He’s a fierce competitor both in the pool or on the tennis court. If there’s a chance to compete, you can count him in!
Jeremiah Morren isn’t just a coach; he’s a cornerstone of the HAC community, a mentor to young athletes, and an inspiring example of what it means to follow your passions. We’re lucky to have him guiding the next generation of swimmers right here in the heart of Holland.
