As the Holland Aquatic Center plans to close the children’s play area as the next phase of the facility’s renovation project begins, they’re hosting one last hurrah for the beloved splash pad.
As the final stages of construction draw near, the Holland Aquatic Center has announced that Thanksgiving week will be the final week of operations for the children’s splash pad. In honor of the history surrounding the facility’s current children’s play area, the Aquatic Center will host a special “family splash time” the week leading up to the play area’s closure.
In between when the current splash pad closes and the new children’s play area opens, the Aquatic Center plans to host special splash-and-play events for families with young children in the warm-water rehabilitation pool, as well as other events. Hours for the “One Last Splash” event are Wednesday, November 24th and Friday, November 26th from noon until 3PM and 6 until 8PM, as well as Saturday, November 27th from noon until 3PM. The splash pad will remain closed on Thanksgiving day with the rest of the facility.
“We know there’s a lot of sentimentality around the splash pad, and we want to make sure we’re honoring that before this next stage of construction,” said Amanda Duimstra, the Aquatic Center’s general manager. “Many will be sad to see it go, but we know everyone will love the new children’s play area, and we can’t wait to share it with all our guests!”
The new children’s play area, part of the center’s expansion and renovation project, will officially open on January 31st, 2022. It will include a zero-entry wading pool, a lazy river, a large circular slide and a play area. The entire area is visible from the facility’s new climate-controlled running, walking and rehabilitation track, as well as from the new group fitness classroom on the facility’s second floor. A new warm-up lap and diving pool will reside in the current splash pad’s location.
