We Are HAC! – Meet Kenna Smith

Kenna Smith is one of our Fitness Attendants at Holland Aquatic Center, and has quickly become a familiar (and welcome!) face for members and guests. Her warm smile and friendly energy make the fitness center feel less intimidating and a lot more like a community.

Kenna is originally from Petersburg, Michigan, a small town just outside Ann Arbor. She moved to Holland when she was 10 years old after her dad accepted a job in the area. Since then, Holland has truly become home. Kenna graduated from Holland Christian High School in 2024 and is currently attending Grand Rapids Community College. She hopes to someday earn a degree in a health-related field, possibly exercise science. When asked what drew her to that path, Kenna’s answer was simple and heartfelt: “I just want to help people.”

At HAC, Kenna’s job title is Fitness Attendant, but her day-to-day work goes far beyond the title. HAC’s Fitness Attendants play a huge role in keeping our fitness center welcoming, organized, and safe for everyone who walks through the doors. Kenna greets members and guests at the fitness desk, helps set up and put away equipment for group fitness classes, keeps exercise equipment clean and disinfected, restocks towels, answers questions, and provides tours to new and prospective members.

When asked how she would describe her job in her own words, Kenna said: “Getting to know the people who come here, why they come here, keeping everyone safe, and answering questions.” That sense of connection is exactly what makes Kenna such a great fit at HAC.

Before working here, Kenna held several positions in retail. One of her favorites was a job making floral arrangements, something she describes as a fun and creative outlet that inspired her gardening hobby at home. When she applied at HAC, she was originally looking for a job that fit her school-year schedule that felt a little more active and meaningful than retail. But during her interview, she realized this was more than just a temporary position. “This is a place I wanted to stay at long term,” she shared.

Kenna says she loves working at HAC because “I love the people, the staff, and the positive environment. I love talking to new people then seeing them around every day.”

Looks like her search for a more active and meaningful job paid off!

Kenna is our Employee of the Month for February 2026, and anyone who’s interacted with her can see why. She brings a warm, friendly, helpful, and outgoing attitude to every shift, whether she’s answering a quick question, helping someone feel more comfortable in the fitness space, or simply saying hello to members by name.

We’re grateful to have Kenna on our team, and we’re proud to highlight her as part of what makes HAC such a special place.
