Holland Community Aquatic Center partners with AMDG+OLC and Lakewood Construction on Renovation and Expansion project
Holland, MI- (10/8/2019) The Holland Area Community Swimming Pool Authority (HACSPA) has selected AMDG+OLC and Lakewood Construction as owner’s architect and construction manager respectively to implement the $26.3 million renovation and expansion project approved by voters in May.
The aquatic center sought community support through a bond proposal to fund the project, which will ensure everyday access to the center for all ages and families as the demand for simultaneous uses increases. The project includes adding warm-water leisure access and a lap pool, updating wellness spaces, adding a new diving and lap pool to its 50-meter competitive pool area and increasing spectator seating, while also improving mechanical systems, air quality and water components in alignment with sustainability goals.
AMDG, the selected owner’s architect, is a mid-sized architecture firm based out of Grand Rapids with deep experience in sports and fitness and educational design. OLC is a nationally recognized firm with aquatics and recreational expertise. AMDG+OLC have teamed on numerous projects. Lakewood Construction, the construction manager, is a Holland-based firm with a specialty in community and education projects.
The aquatic center has also retained Greg Maybury as owner’s representative for construction. Maybury was formerly the Director of Operations for Hope College and has overseen numerous construction projects.
In addition to progress on construction partnerships, HACSPA successfully issued bonds, which were rated A1 (Moody) and AA (S&P) through underwriters Stifel and 5/3rd Bank. The bonds sold rapidly at the authority’s interest rate of 2.98%.
“The HCASPA board and I understand our responsibility to steward funds granted to us by the community wisely,” said Jack Huisingh, Executive Director Holland Community Aquatic Center. “Our decision to partner with AMDG+OLC and Lakewood Construction comes after careful review and deliberation. These top-notch firms will help to lead successful construction.”
The design + construction team are currently working toward design completion to open construction bids in early 2020. Renovation and construction would likely break ground in summer 2020 and wrap by 2022.
