ADAPTIVE SWIM OPPORTUNITIES

HAC is for All!

Our adaptive splash time and adaptive swim lesson program provide safe, supportive, and fun water environments for those with unique intellectual and physical needs. Both offerings strive to build confidence and competency in the water for our adaptive participants. Other benefits can be derived too, such as improved balance, range of motion, and fitness.

    ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

For children ages 1 to 15, HAC’s adaptive swim lesson program focuses on water safety and competency for special needs participants. Through a systematic and fun approach, basic water skills are taught for gains in breath control, flotation, strength, balance, and gross motor skills. Social interaction is a key component to a special needs student’s success, too. Individualized lessons are tailored to each participant’s capabilities and goals.

Parents of children 1 to 3 years old must participate with their child in the lesson. All parents must be prepared to participate in the lessons if necessary.

    REGISTER FOR ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

Simply call HAC at 616.393.7595 and ask for Corrin Buck, operations manager for instructional programs at HAC. You will be asked a short series of questions to assess your students’ needs and swimming experience in order to be registered.

    VOLUNTEER FOR ADAPTIVE SWIM LESSONS

Do you want to make a difference in the life of a child with special needs? Are you a college student who needs observation hours or an internship? A high school student who would like to job shadow or gain volunteer hours? A retiree looking to give back to the community?

Those with compassion, empathy, and flexibility are encouraged to apply!

BONUS: All Adaptive Swim volunteers will receive a FREE six-week membership at HAC.
